SQ1 Original Content - ๐Ÿ“š Doctor Who? # 84 (
CEFR B2.2)

A: Who?

B: The Doctor.

A: When?
โ€‹
B: Anytime. Past, present or future.

A: Where?
โ€‹
B: Anywhere you would like to go.

A: How?
โ€‹
B: In a 1960s police box.

A: Wait... how?
โ€‹
B: Ok, in a TARDIS that is disguised as a police box.

A: What's a TARDIS?

B: Oh, it's a time machine. TARDIS stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space.

A: Ok...

B: Look. It's very simple. Doctor Who is a classic British science-fiction TV show (and radio show, and novels, and comics) that follows the adventures of an alien Doctor with no name, and two hearts, who travels through time and space having great big adventures.

A: So the Doctor must be at least eighty years old at this point. I can't imagine they feel up to having lots of adventures still.

B: Actually the Doctor doesn't know how old they are...

A: What?

B: Well they travel through time and space, and then they regenerate into a new person each time they die. I think they are over a 1000 years old now...

A: They do what?

B: Regenerate. They are reborn.

A: So a new performer gets to take on the role?

B: Exactly! Now you're getting it.

A: So, what number are we on now?

B: Fourteen. Although he's technically the tenth Doctor, too. And number fifteen is about to start soon, so that means something bad will happen to him rather soon I guess.

A: I'm lost.

B: That's to be expected. Look, all you need to know is the BBC is making the next series with a bit of Disney money. So Disney+ are showing it around the rest of the world and it doesn't look quite as cheap as it usually does. Oh, and it's basically a kids TV show for the whole family, so get ready for slightly bonkers 1970s looking aliens.

A: Ok...

B: Watch the video if you're still understandably confused.

Hello Reader, Welcome to this week's issue of The SQ1 Reader. SQ1 Original Content - ๐Ÿ“š The Surprisingly Sad Sounds of Xmas (CEFR B1.2) If I were in an anglophone country right now, it would be inescapable. There would be no way to get away from it. In every shop, in every supermarket, belting out of the speakers of every car and truck; every Christmas song you have ever heard in your life on repeat for almost a month. And the UKs perennial favourite? Well, it's none other than Fairytale of...

That is mentioned in the video below. What isn't mentioned in the video below? That Japanese companies often cover the cost of commuting an unreasonable distance each day for all its staff. Which is great,...

As a result, I have done a lot of passive studying of Japanese language filtered through two constraints. One, the length of the scene itself. The sentence has to be...
